The Toronto Maple Leafs and Auston Matthews’ camp remain at a stalemate with regards to his entry level contract, but it’s a pretty cut-and-dry scenario.
Auston Matthews is a generational talent. That’s the expectation and that’s the reality. What that means for an entry level contract is max bonuses and pen to paper. It’s pretty simple.
The scenario is being over-blown due to Lou Lamoriello’s history with entry level deals and bonuses. If Lamoriello’s previous history is holding up the negotiations then, well, it’s a pretty disappointing move from the Toronto Maple Leafs front office.
