With FC Dallas qualified for the 2018 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League by virtue of winning the 2016 Supporters' Shield, the North American confederation have confirmed the new tournament format and draw dates for next year's competition.
Gone is the group stage, replaced by a 16-team seeded bracket. As was the case with the knockout rounds already, these will be played over two legs. The draw will feature two pots, with FC Dallas as one of the eight seeded teams. Every Liga MX and MLS side, except Colorado, are in pot 1. Colorado are guaranteed either Toronto FC or a Mexican side since two US teams cannot face each other in the first round.
