“As a coordinator, the guy that gives you the best chance to win, you embrace their skill set.”
PROVO — For three seasons, in varying degrees, BYU implemented the go-fast-go-hard offense that emphasized, among other things, no huddles, shotgun formations, the zone-read and a high-tempo, breathless pace of play.
But first-year offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Ty Detmer is bringing back the traditional, pro-style BYU offense. It will feature huddling between plays, the quarterback spending more time under center, reliance on all-purpose running backs and the development of tight ends as receivers, which has been missing in recent seasons.
